Well, that’s it, end of madness and beginning of the party. Match Khatam ho gaye, lekin party abhi baki hai. Match befitting a final, we are the deserved winners, defeated Australia in the QF and Pakistan in the SF and Srilanka in the Finals.
There was time when India was chasing and Sachin got out, most of the TV’s in India would be switched off in anticipation of a defeat, not any more. Off late our team has chased big totals very well. But yesterday we had our hearts pounding in our mouths, and a brief spell of uncertainity, but Dhoni put to rest all the uncertainties.
I was watching the match, together with some of my college friends at a friend’s place, after the match when I was driving back home from Outter Ring road (ORR) to BommanHalli, the mood was totally different. There were too many vehicles on the road, honking, people celebrating wildly, shouting in their cars. A group of college students were stopping each car on the ORR and shaking hands with the people on the road. They were chased by the police. There was this incident when a car hit a bike from behind and bike fell over and the 2 riders on the bike fell down. I thought the bike guy would get up and smack the face of the car driver, but no, when the car driver stepped out, the bike guy hugged him and both of started shouting. Well, you never see this in Bangalore, this is case for an ideal exchange of fists, but here we have 2 people hugging and shouting. This is what Cricket does to us, it makes us do stupid things.
There were too may bike riders with 3 people on the bike shouting and driving wildy. It was past midnight, generally at this hour, the street dogs would be chasing the 2 wheelers. But not today, there were too many 2 wheelers on the roads, shouting and honking. The dogs would be wondering, what the hell happened to these humans, why are they shouting like us, too bad they don’t know India has won the Cricket world cup.
Yes, we are the world Champions.
